The BBC sells the rights of Top Gear to the international markets. They then are able to keep this money and use as they see fit. For example, BBC America is not simply gifted Top Gear...they send subscriber fees back to BBC in exchange for content.
I'm in Ad Sales...I'll be happy to pound the pavement!
Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
I see all sorts of rusted heaps up there...I don't believe for a minute that half of the states that you're talking about are actually as strict as you let on. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing less shitty cars on the road (though Florida will let anything with wheels on the highways).
I had a 2003 9-3 Linear...literally everything broke on that car. The horn would sound while driving, the key would die, the AC broke several times, the gear box would pop out of gear, the radio wouldn't work, the shift-knob would pop off and fly into the back seat while I was driving, the passenger seat came unbolted…
That would actually be awesome.
The BBC makes a pant-load of money off of Top Gear and the other shows licensed through it's subsidiaries based in foreign countries. They will truly be shooting themselves in the foot if they ditch Top Gear...It's the only show that really, truly, honestly makes them a ton of money on BBC America.
I used to work across the street and go hang out in the cars during my lunch break...I loved sitting in the AMG cars, and most of the staff seemed to enjoy working there.
Pretty sure you'd have a hard time finding a job down the road...being the producer who punches talent and all...
He's the face of a show that is watched by 3/4s of a billion people...I think he has every right to be a bit of a dick. The BBC owes him a pretty huge deal of gratitude for a show that has been the epitome of a cash cow...
Yeah...those are pretty swanky. A lot of dudes on the new trains just pound two of those huge cans of Fosters and pass out.
I do miss the fake wood paneling and the bar car...
Love this car...I see them in the city every once and a while, and they are like stealth bombers. Especially in silver or some sort of taupe color.
Custom paint...I bet they'd do it if you pay enough.
Stamford is usually where the problems happen. More often than not you transfer during "off peak" times onto a crazy crowded train there. They just need to run more trains on the main line. I'm just glad that we finally have new trains. The movie Ice Storm was set in the 60's and they still had the trains from then…
I take the train along the New Haven Line pretty often (my dad lives in New Canaan and mom lived in Westport), and used to commute from New Canaan for a while before moving into the city. Fridays, Holiday Weekends, and Summer Weekends all seem to get JAMMED in Stamford to the point that they cannot take tickets.
There are three with higher ridership in China, Seoul, and Moskow. NYC is the biggest in the US by far.
The funny thing about the L is that there are so many damn delays that have nothing to do with signal problems. There always seems to be someone heaving themselves in front of a train (I believe that train suicides have been increasing), or some sort of train problem that causes the L to single-track their way into…
the commuter trains get so packed on sundays and during the week that there's no place to stand but in the aisles. The funny thing is, if they ran more trains they'd collect more fares. half of the time the trains are too packed for the conductors to collect tickets.
