Applaud the cops stoicism, but my takeaway is the obvious confidence a person has to feel to launch that slur at a cop. And there’s a reason for that confidence. And that reason is partly cops themselves. Trying to imagine a minority yelling “Pig!” at a cop repeatedly and just getting a ticket for littering.

Talk about your “activist judges”.  Once again, the right tells on itself with ever accusation it makes.

Republican justices are just making policy on their own at this point.

As if 1993 was 30 years ago. Holup...wait just a second. Dammit.

For us slightly older generation, how about movies turning 50 this year

As a Gen Xer I saw 9 of them in the movie theaters and 6 later on cable

Enlighten me, then... What the fuck is an acting award for? Hsu’s performance was better, more central to the success of the film, and less likely to be seamlessly replaced... I didn’t mention all of that because I was being nice (Seriously: No beef with Jamie Lee Curtis. Zero. Vegan.), but I think I did enough to

What an overreaction. Folk are acting as if Angela is the first actor to get snubbed at the Oscars.  Plenty of actors have gotten snubbed. Glenn Close has been nominated 4 or 5 times and lost each time.  The late Anges Morehead was nominated 9 times and lost nine times.

Stephanie Hsu was more central to the film”

That. Is. Not. What. An. Acting. Award. Is. For.

I liked Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It was a stirring tribute to Chadwick Boseman, it was a pretty good entry into the MCU, and it had some truly beautiful moments. It was also over-long and a bit of a mess at times. Angela Bassett was the best part of it, to her credit, but it was not some unimpeachable moment in

rebuff, ignore, or spurn disdainfully.”

That is what snub means.

Angela Bassett gave a performance that was recognized as one of the five best performances in film in 2022.

Losing the award is NOT a snubbing. PERIOD.

I agree. She was the standout performance in Wakanda Forever. I thought the movie was okay to good, but not great. And I agree, the film itself is what hurt Bassett’s chances. I felt bad for her, but Curtis isn’t exactly underserving. I do think that between Curtis and Hsu, then Hsu should have been the clear winner.

Many critics agreed with you. It wasn’t very good. Of course, The Root made it seem like it deserved to be on the Mount Rushmore of movies alongside “The Godfather”.

And I never once believed Bill Murray was Jacques Cousteau in The Life Aquatic. He didn’t even have the accent!

Instead of “happy trees” etc., his tagline could be “Paint these clouds . . . like a BOSS!

Wait, has anyone mentioned yet that this isn’t a movie about Bob Ross?

Someone is always going to be offended now. So use Sir or Ma’am and offend someone. Or not use either and offend someone.

“What the fuck,” someone replied.”

So say we all.

There aren’t that many women in the game. Whenever Lo Wang meets one, he hits on them with a cheesy pick-up line and is promptly rejected. If he persists, he usually ends up getting attacked by said woman. Seems pretty consistent with the perverted old man archetype.

Again, Lo Wang is based on the old pervert archetype that’s common in Asian media. You aren’t laughing at his Asian-ness, you’re laughing at his failed attempts to seduce girls or be witty. Again, this is a well established archetype in Asian pop cultures.
