That's such a gross simplification of Danaerys that I'm almost tempted to ask if you've read the books, rather than just skimmed them.
I feel it's the opposite - they've removed all the danger and edge and nuance to make her some Uber sympathetic mama-bear.
I feel that the whole "Wildling" thing in the show is so stupid on multiple fronts, and dont know why that adaptation choice was made.
There was also dialogue in the books that Elia was fragile health wise, and couldn't bear any more children after her second. And the dragon must have three heads.

Actually, every time they use book dialogue, it's insanely noticeable how the quality in writing goes up. :P
I also think that Penny does serve to remind Tyrion of his privilege - she's a dwarf that wasn't born into a noble hoise, or with money, or an education - any number of things Tyrion has and has dismissed as worthless as he wallows in his grief.
At least he had a good couple of, "Bye Felicia," moments with Cersei and Jaime. I love how he gives no fucks about them.

Well, Vanessa did have a Really Nice Day and seemed to enjoy herself for a little bit. There was so much smiling! And all because Sir Ferdinand got her some help.
