Every time an article from Jez gets cross-posted on Gawker, I wake up to hundreds of awful comments. I dismiss them, but the reminder of how angry/offended people get about something as innocuous as say, Ina Garten, is enough that if Jez does get folded into Gawker, I will no longer be commenting.

Every day I wake up and I’m not Mrs. Oscar Isaac and it’s sad.

(I live in LA and am LAUSD teacher-affiliated) Lots of stay-at-home parents were offering to take classmates home with them this morning and I know of at least two employers who sent mass texts ok’ing everyone to bring kids to work today.

Exactly! When I was pregnant I HATED it when people would brush off my worries like, “Oh, women have been doing this for thousands of years.” Well, ya... and they’ve been dying for thousands of years too. How terrible if a woman was forced to carry an unwanted fetus/baby to birth, only to die in the process. UGH.

On a side note, this is exactly why abortion needs to be legal. Women used to die from child birth all the time and people are forgetting that. It’s a major medical event. I hate when people make flippant remarks about “why can’t the woman just stick it out for nine months and let the baby be born?” Because its not…

Addiction is a terrible, horrible thing no one should be idolizing. Seeing someone you love waste away and give up on everything is devastating. Anyone glamorizing additction as anything but tragic needs a reality check.

I wish there were more room in the modern media world for a bit more easy generosity between folks. It’s wearying to always be demanding apologies, you know? People goof. They say stupid shit. Unpopular opinion time: I was not pissed when he made the first comment. I thought it was pretty clear that he meant that the franchise hadn’t really gone out of its way to invite women in (which is true), not that women are incapable of being fans.

Considering that the news media doxxed the grandmother, and also wrongly claimed some other dude was one shooter’s brother, it may very well be for her safety right now. I can absolutely see some nut job carrying a retaliatory attack out on the infant/family.

I feel terrible for this family. They are victims in this too, and seem just as dumbfounded and terrified as everyone else. I hope they can provide her with a stable home. This is such an awful situation all around.
