I'm not sure I've ever seen a good book go off the rails as quickly as that one did. In retrospect, I should have stopped reading. The book works just fine with an explanation for the monster. Hopefully the show will just ignore that last bit too.

I read it while doing work in the arctic ocean, with our camp along the sailor's intended route, working with an Inuit guy from King William Island. It was a weird experience all around.
