They got the guy who did the Sonic Mania insterstitials and I think used to art-lead the Sonic comic book in to do the redesign.

Presumably Sonicworld would be more expensive to deal with for the whole movie, so they’re saving it for a possible sequel.

That’s pretty much the core of his whole deal. Anything and everything that’s unfamiliar or even just not commonplace and ordinary is horrifying and repellent.
