Things definitely seem to have gotten better (I moved here about 2 years ago). That atmosphere you describe is still around, but there is a growing amount of culture and acceptance. I wouldn’t call it a very progressive city by any means, but the less conservative pockets are expanding, and are some of the more

Our local news is the best, you’re just jealous. Some highlights:

If you take it out of gear, the engine would stall if fuel cut was on... if you leave it in gear, the engine still spins, so you can cut fuel.

Every modern car uses fuel cut on decel to a significant extent. Below a certain RPM, fuel cut turns off so the engine doesn’t stall.

For me (28 years old), The Wall is hugely nostalgic. I very distinctly remember being 5 years old and going to Burger King and my dad just blasting it on the kick-ass stereo system he configured in his car. Acoustically, the dynamics and the visceral impact of the start of some of the songs are just incredible when

Cycling in Manhattan is certainly, uh, different than other places. But trust your somewhat counterintuitive assumption, traffic generally moves slowly in Manhattan compared to the other boroughs. It requires lots of attention to ride in Manhattan, so it may seem scarier because so much more is happening, but I think

I’ve been wondering why Littlefinger has been seemingly getting so ragged (he looks older to me, and sounds more hoarse), or if it has just been my imagination. Teaming up with NK would perhaps explain that.

Came here for this, thank you

Ah, the old magic touch :) The gum added some flair, but nothing is more satisfying than watching the struggle and confusion and fixing it with one smooth motion!

Used my foot as a chain tensioner for a 1968 Suzuki K15. Axle slipped forward enough that the chain was skipping, didn’t have a 17mm wrench on me, and needed to get to work. Stuck my foot down on the chain and prayed that there was a low enough coefficient of friction between my gum rubber soles and the chain that I

How about this one? Heroin!

Yeah, although this workshop appears crude on the surface, to my semi-trained eyes (I’m a mechanical engineer with plenty of hobbies including R/C aircraft) their creations look pretty legitimately effective. They certainly won’t be winning any R/C competitions, but they’ll get the job done of sending a weapon towards

If anyone in Toyota corporate reads your complaint, it’s likely they will take it seriously. Keep trying with them. Toyota the manufacturer cares much more about its customers than their dealerships do (since they are entirely separate entities with different ownership).

Are you hiking up? I may hike up there tomorrow from the west side of the mountain...

I think he meant packing the truck weight-forward (the same way you described loading a trailer). In any moving system, moving center of mass forward increases stability. FWD sedans vs. Porsche 911s, for instance. Or the toy Mustang trailer, or a rocket or plane. So yeah, you guys are on the same page.

I rolled a golf cart on top of myself once on asphalt. Not fun. I like this strategy.

Oof, were you triggered, snowflake? Does someone celebrating, experiencing, and writing about their own non-oppressive culture make you uncomfortable?

I don’t think I can add any words to this discussion that are any better thank what igorwords has said, but please, please, just take a step back and give the person the benefit of the doubt. They’re not operating from a place of victimhood, that is something you assumed all on your own before your wrote your OP. Just

Goodness, your patience knows no bounds. I have to commend you for trying so earnestly to get through to the guy. He doesn’t deserve your sympathy and energy, but you are trying anyway. The world would be a better place if there were more people like you in it.
