I tried this last year. Once I ran out of candy I turned out the lights. Kids (with their parents even) still rang the door bell. I was not amused >:-|

A few people already suggested using a clip to tame the cord. I second this idea. I use the most versatile of office supplies, the trusty binder clip. You can easily route the cord through the clip and attach it to your monitor, desk, sleeve, chair, etc.
Agreed. The results are interesting but only really relevant when comparing how networks perform in different metro areas.
I'm so excited to start this Lifehacker Challenge. One point that isn't mentioned that makes this better than Crossfit/P90-x/personal trainer is that it is FREE!
Has anyone tried out the new split keyboard on the iPad? I haven't heard much about it in reviews but it is one of the features I'm most excited to try hands-on.
I listened to Explosions in the Sky while mowing the lawn. Never before has yard work been as epic or moving.
Anyone know of good websites reviewing cell networks (coverage, speed, etc) in different US cities. I found cellreception.com but the customer reviews aren't recent (at lease for Austin). I'm leaning towards Sprint for the iPhone 4S but I get the impression that their 3G service is less than spectacular for much of…
Don't forget to shop around for promotional rates. If you're a new/out-of-contract customer you can qualify for some pretty good deals that aren't well advertised. A little bit of Googling reveals details on employee referral programs which can make your dollar go that much further.
edit: nm :-/
Salad Fingers was how I first discovered Boards of Canada. Since then, I can't listen to their music without feeling cold, alone, confused, and uneasy.
I would treat loose tea leaves like coffee grounds. Both can cause build up pipes. Best bet would be to avoid putting loose leaves down the sink at all, if possible. Of course if you notice your drains getting slow you can always pour boiling water down the drain to break things up. Tea drinkers should never be in…
Have a reason to run. Sign-up for a race a few months ahead of time. I always find it more motivating when I'm working towards a goal. Also, track your progress. Keep a log of all your runs. Make note of how far you ran, how long you ran, how you felt, what the weather was like, etc. After just a week you should…
Is the interest rate relevant for people who truly take advantage of rewards cards? It seems like if you carry a balance and actually get charged interest you will quickly negate any 'rewards' you may have earned.
I can see Jig being useful for facilitating quick conversations. However, I also see the discussions quickly devolving into Yahoo Answers territory. There doesn't seem to be a way to organize the site or easily find experts on topics. For more serious questions I'll stick to Quora [www.quora.com]
Amazon does monitor the activity and they will cancel your account if they detect you are simply moving money around. Of course there are ways to stay under the radar, such as sending smaller amounts (i.e. <$1000), not sending the same amount every time, and regularly mixing in legitimate payments.
Anyone have tips for watching live sports sans cable? That has been my biggest challenge since cutting the cord. Luckily most NFL games are on broadcast TV so I don't miss too much, but college football is still mostly cable-only.
Try not to settle for just any job. Make sure that the experience you gain will be somewhat valuable for your career. Good part-time jobs can give you a huge leg-up when you start searching for full-time work after graduation. For example, a bank teller position will likely look better on a resume compared to a Subway…
I was with him until he quoted the Black Eyed Peas. Following that lead, "Mix your milk wit my cocoa puff, milky, milky cocoa." Now there is some sound advice!
Thanks, Jesse! The extended trial and discount are certainly appreciated. I will definitely be checking out YNAB. Thanks for actively reaching out to the Lifehacker community!
Sadly, I doubt this upward trend in used car prices will affect the value of my truck. Anyone looking to buy a 1990 Chevy pickup? Handyman's dream: rusted out radiator, leaky water pump, burnt-out power window motors, antiquated freon AC needs work. Best of all, the odometer is stuck on 167k miles, so it perpetually…
