One of Genghis Khan's sons ruled his empire, and took the title Möngke Khan, and while I know he was one of the most powerful figures in history, and this is horribly culturally insensitive of me, I can't stop myself from thinking of him as Monkey Kong.

It can be two things!

Ha. There was a New York band with the same name about the same time. Or maybe they just moved.

A lot of stuff I used to write — Inventory, Q/A — is staff-only now, and I had to bow out of Newswire a while back because of time constraints. But I could write more if I bothered to pitch features. I have a much lower-profile (but well-paying) writing gig that's taken time away from AVC, even as they've been cutting

It's amazing how much painstaking attention to detail Cameron put into a movie with such a hackneyed plot. Ooh, who will she choose? The handsome, charming, rogue who's encourages her to be independent and is there for her at every turn? Or the guy who hits her, threatens her mother, and ate a live kitten in front of

I love Morgan Hill sharing a name with a city. I once started writing (and never finished) a novel whose main character was named Alison Park, and then found out that Allison Park is a suburb of Pittsburgh. Rather than changing her name, I would have worked that into the story if I ever finished it.

But I do like linking each article, and I found it read better to end with the links than start next week's with the same. Also, it gives @unexpected_dave:disqus a headstart to do his

That's a terrific side story. I try to stick to just what's on the Wikipedia page being covered, but to be honest, I probably would have included that if I had known about it, or had read the Astor page more fully.

Okay, I have to come back around to her one of these days.

The Ramones' "I Don't Wanna Go Into the Garbage Can" was a homage.

Yeah, a reader suggested next week's, but I saw that the straightest connection went through Margaret Brown, and thought her story was a good one too, so I cheated a bit. (Not for the first time — I can't remember when, but I've done a simple 1-link "further down" before). This is what happens when I made up the

Cats hate water! It'd be really effective! I'm just sayin'…

I'm not saying @Lobsters is dead, but no one's heard from him in a few years….

I thought it was supposed to come off as creepy, but who knows.

Thanks for reading!

We switched it to Sundays a few months ago. I was Mondays, but the site has so much content Monday mornings I was getting pushed off the front page by 9AM.

A talking mongoose is extra-special. Typing mongooses are a dime a dozen.

On the whole I enjoyed Summer of Sam, but when the dog actually starts speaking to Berkowicz, the audience burst out laughing. Probably not what Spike was going for.
