People find it easy to dunk on Ed Sheeran, but, these lawsuits are doing far more damage to music than even AI.

The hyper-realism stuff is so bad. People remember the cartoon versions because they have distinct looks and can emote in fun, cartoony ways. These are just literally photorealistic animals and you can do almost nothing with them.

Whenever anyone puts scare quotes around Cancel Culture or says that it doesn’t really work, it always seems to come with the tacit suggestion that they really wish that it *would.* Which then seems to indicate that it *is* actually a culture of thought.

I think she’s more or less spot on here. We weaken what we exaggerate, and the Extremely Online and the Perpetual Outrage Machine exhaust otherwise reasonable people who would listen to genuine grievances.

I feel like this is missing the underlying issue here. Is it okay to portray Cleopatra as black? YES. Are many people expressing concern about historical accuracy here actually by motivated by racism? ALSO YES. But is it okay to suggest she was actually black in a documentary that’s intended on a subliminal level to…
