I’m from Puerto Rico originally and grew up watching all the local PR comedy shows plus Sabado Gigante etc. And I will confirm that a lot of the comedy is broad, loud, and often times can be offensive / insensitive. So you’re definitely onto something.

That is a long list of PR queens. Not gonna claim they are all amazing and some overstayed their welcome (Kenya Michaels) but yes, it does seem that they are cast to check the box.
