The article is kinda clueless.
The article is kinda clueless.
As you can see some people just want to stay pressed such as the person you responded.
I think you're sanitizing some of the criticism
Counterpoint
Personally I think it should be “Latin-equis”
Nobody is asking her to walk back what she said but her response was basically “Yea you fucked up” and that’s it. I have noticed that a lot of her writing is basically shitting on Latinx / Hispanics so I guess this is on brand for her anyway.
I think that was supposed to be a joke by gracie from Twitter (whose opinion is very relevant here!)
Her response keeps her in the spotlight so she knows what shes doing. Not sure about all the other folks piling on like the silly person stating that LMM will be quickly forgotten. Fuck that noise
“I can only hope for action to align with the words.”
“But in the film, Vanessa is played by white-passing Mexican actor Melissa Barrera.”
Criticism is warranted but the level of venom in some of the responses (not talking about Felice Leon here btw) was excessive.
“Now, back to LMM, his Disney-fied self can get forgotten real quickly, just as quickly as he was called a genius not so long ago.”
“ tell me you think that asking for forgiveness is sufficient to correct the problem.”
The criticism is valid but my response when I read Felice’s response was “girl really?”
“Haters will hate!”
Good question, especially given the significance of the film to the community, I was definitely surprised that they didn’t find a Hispanic / Latinx director.
But would we really be surprised if somebody wrote something about why they could not find a Latinx director for a movie that is definitely a moment for the community?
My apologies, let me re-write that
Colorism is definitely an issue worth discussing but it was kinda weird to see the title next to the movie poster with a prominently-featured Black actor.
