This movie is messy bullshit and I love it so much

D'Angelo suggested that the movie would have been great if it ended right at the smash-cut after the "major event," and when I rewatched it I totally agree. That would, however, deny us the great shot of Broomhilda plugging her ears.

oh god "taking the piss out of himself." I listened to the Hot Fuzz commentary he did with Edgar Wright and I swear he uses that expression 50 times.

Somebody gets their nutsack blown off in like all of his movies.

Agreed, I think the baroque-ness of his movies actually takes on a sort of humanistic generosity. It was there back in Reservoir Dogs and has continued ever since. His willingness to give every. single. character their due as a person caught up in a huge plot is, I think, I strongly moral choice on his part, and one

I.V.: Can we get an unofficial opinion on whether it's worth the travel time/money/hassle to see this in 70mm? I can't tell whether the review sort of glosses over the hyped presentation format because it doesn't signify, because you can't say because you didn't see it in DCP, or because us civilians probably won't be

After four books I think I know more about her nipples than my own.

Maggie Nelson said that radical rhetoric can become a sort of fetish. I hadn't really thought about it like that but I think it's true.

I was just defending Titus in the "Macbeth" comments section. Here I'll just say that either that or The Tempest are my favorites. Both are amazing.

Yeah, I can imagine a scene where Nathan's just standing there, palms up, going, "Well, he did ask you and you did say yes, so . . ." and does that little shrug.

Yeah, and based on Comet i don't know why they bothered with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo guy. The aesthetic was all Esmail's.

I love Nathan For You, but that got waaaaay to close to sexual assault.

Also "more depressing for its predictability than its bleakness." I felt personally addressed with that one.

Does "coed" the noun still refer exclusively to female college students? I always find it jarring since as an adjective, if refers to gender-neutral areas, but still has some sort of holdover from gender integration.

That's typically the way I express my love of Shyamalan. He suffuses his movies with great moments and gestures, even when the plot can't sustain itself (Lady in the Water).

I always forget that half of the movie goes by before it splits off from diverting to best-film-ever. But it's also my go-to silent comedy for skeptics.

One of my favorite things Ebert said was that one of the most radical things a movie can do is show somebody doing their job. That's one reason I love the Dardennes. I would expand it to include simply anyone completing any actual process in a way a human would.

I'm going with "stupid" per Beema to mean, basically, "inferior." I see "best way to see a movie" as implying that all other ways are inferior experiences: not best = worse (if not "worst"). Plus a common refrain among people who replied was the implication that I'm actually not interested in film.
