I’m surprised the ‘97 to 2002 Honda Accord coupes didn’t make the list. Those transmissions were not up for the power of the V6 they offered in that model. Story has it that Honda was worried a manual Accord coupe would hurt their Prelude sales, so they never offered them. So sad, because they’d be a great fun coupe…

I had a 1994 Mazda Protege with a five-speed manual. It was a magnificent gearbox, and I could get over 40 mpg on a long trip.

My brother bought a DCT ford last year unaware of the transmission issue. It’s now been sitting in front of his apartment for 3 months and no transmission shop will look at it. He has since bought a new vehicle, but what can he do with the ford? The thought of scrapping a car he and I paid a combined $8,000 dollars…

My (rare) 2002 330ci SMG was a hoot and had zero trans issues. I sold it to a car-nut pal (he owns an Aston Martin, two Bentleys, multiple Bimmers etc.) and he still runs it as his daily driver. How’s that for +20 year “unreliable”?

I think the issue was with the added torque of the M3, TBH. He had the clutch disc…

The only thing the Subaru CVTs need are oil changes every 20-30k miles.

Also, surprised that the Toyotas were not listed. Granted, the transmission is pretty good, but the main complaint I hear is about their ratios and how you need to reprogram it for the Toyota to feel good.

About the Subaru...transmission aside, look at those gorgeous windows! You can actually see OUT of the car!

The Wilderness edition Subarus have a different final drive than the standard models, as well as transmission coolers to address these issues.

I would have thrown later jeep grand Cherokees because it killed Anton Yelchin. But that was more the Transmisson gear selector than the transmission itself

That they do. It’ll say “Manual” and then be the SMG. I’ve also noticed that phenomenon with the subsequent E9x 3 Series, which had the 7-speed DCT.

See, this one is less about the tranny and more about how you drive it. I have a very good buddy of mine running a 2003 M3 SMG daily + track duty. Never had an issue with the SMG, but he services it. He’s anal about maintenance on that car. It wins races, after all!
But according to him, driving it in full manual mode…

I’m extremely ACAB, but if police body cam footage shows this guy had unholstered a gun, I have to wonder what he expected was going to happen.

??? Do they have a maximum speed of 50mph or something? What does this even mean? If it’s acceleration, the Prius Prime does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds on battery. Compare that to the average CUV most people drive at about 9 seconds, and there doesn’t seem to be any problem here.
