I will be honest, I have not tried this in the BMW in question, but I have yet to drive a car, the engine of which produced more power than the brakes were able to compensate for. My 450 HP Camaro’s engine does not have anywhere near enough power to overcome the brakes.

I once covered 240 miles in 2 hours at WOT or near-WOT. The temp gauge on the dash never budged, and I burned 9-10 gallons of gasoline doing it. That car went on to drive over 250,000 miles, so I don’t think it suffered any ill effects.

With 200HP on tap, we’ll be going 150-160MPH. 150 makes the math come out to a nice even 40 minutes to cover the distance.

The Ford Aerostar went down in history as one of the most unreliable cars ever made, albeit mostly due to transmission problems. I assume it was an automatic transmission flaw, so credit where credit is due: this car may actually not suffer from that horrendous record.

100 miles of straight road will be difficult to find, at least in America. ND 46 W miiight work, but it is not truly straight for a 100 uninterrupted miles. Saudi Arabia or Australia may fare better.

As subjective as “shifter feel” is, I do have to say that for performance cars, a short shifter is generally preferred, actual performance gains, or lack thereof, notwithstanding. Ripping off quick shifts, or quick “feeling” shifts, is kind of intrinsic to a sporty car as it compliments the whole feel of what the car…
