I thought we were having clams.

I’m from Utica and I’ve never heard anyone use the phrase “steamed hams.”

What if they’re obviously grilled?

Well, that really depends on if you’re from Utica or Albany, doesn’t it?

As someone that owns probably 50+ war movies on DVD, and sits in Memorial Day Weekend to watch TCM, I have to say Battleground is one of the greatest of WWII movies.  Always glad when people have seen and recognize it.

Love the illustrations and how oddly lifelike and expressive they are. Kinda unrelated but I always think of this joke in “the thick of it” when I see any mention of Quentin Blake.

Yep, and that’s why I only read The Witches once when I was a kid. The illustrations were nightmare fuel.

I’ll see your Ethan Frome and raise you The Scarlet Letter. :)

I find myself constantly frustrated by revolution stories for this reason. A serious take on a revolution - and there are so many to choose from, and often so eerily similar! - would, as you say, take everyone seriously, and explore how, even when most protagonists are mostly genuine in their ideals, everything

If Community really wanted to be honest, nearly every episode with Pierce in it would have to be removed. A TON of that character’s “jokes” were just regurgitated racism, straight up.

It’s true... we’re so lame

I can't trust the opinion of anyone so cynical as to have disdain for the Polyphonic Spree.

Westmark is barely available as a book. Was looking to pick it up the other week. Paper only (what I prefer, but not during a pandemic) and only two of the three books in available editions at B&N.  Probably pick it up at the library at some point...

Unpopular opinion but I think Shawshank is in pretty much the same category as Forrest Gump. Where Forrest winning out over Pulp Fiction is definitely the triumph of Old Hollywood over New, I think Shawshank is also pretty Old Hollywood, the gritty R-Rated Yin to Gump's sentimental PG-13 Yang
