I think the weirdness of the whole situation can be summed up by the idea that people won’t show up to the theater for stuff they can see at home, but they will show up for TV shows. Obviously there’s an element of communal viewing the people enjoy, but that’s hard to market. But sinking $200-300 million into movies

There’s a generational component to the advertising part - YouTube has a LOT of ads, including movie trailers, but people over ~20 don’t consider watching YouTube a viable form of entertainment, and younger people don’t necessarily see a trailer and plan to go to a movie theater.

Prometheus and Alien Covenant are perfectly serviceable scifi horror movies, and they’re exactly as dumb and silly as that description implies. The idea that they’re the worst entries in a series that includes Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection is absurd.

Aww Nathan Rabin and Cookie Monster in the same week. Are Genevieve Koski and Mohd hiding behind a curtain?

Lol, great point.

I suppose I could use a more inclusive term, but David Tenant already claimed “whinging fucker.” Anyway, “homophobic” is a reasonable shorthand for queerphobia more generally.

At the risk of being shitty, the willingness to define all sex as rape is a tenet of radical feminism, and to some degree that’s the factor that distinguishes radical feminism from other kinds of feminism.

It’s pretty funny that they recast all of these roles except Wolverine, but nobody wants cameos from James McAvoy’s Professor X or Nicholas Hoult’s Beast. Going back to the 2000s cast for cameos (and sequelizing the 90s TV show) just shows how hard it is to effectively reboot the X-Men. But I'm sure the 2020s version

I don’t know that this recap of West’s career is totally accurate - unless you’re in the vocal “it’s boring” camp, House of the Devil is a major improvement on the 80s movies it’s riffing - the slow pace and long pauses increase the tension, rather than padding the runtime. As much as I love X, it’s also a clever

The CIA tried using it in torture sessions, but the detainees kept shoving their own heads underwater.

I love the framing of old 3D movies - all those seemingly random close ups.

He’s also pretentious as fuck with his material - the article doesn’t mention that this movie is an adaptation of a graphic novel (https://www.richard-mcguire.com/new-page-4) that’s about imagery and formalism rather than schmaltz.

I love Prey. I especially love how it introduces those French trappers to provide fodder for both the Predator and Midthunder. It’s thematically clever - what with them being hunters and all - and so fucking satisfying.

So it’s less that “he is survived by his children” and more “his children survived him.”

I remember Crazy Town was everywhere in the summer of 2001, and then in the fall Al Qaeda was everywhere.

Not really - the phrasing “we actually play live” implies a contrast, and “What? Just saying” is generally how people acknowledge a casual insult, rather than self deprecation. I’m a little surprised that someone would miss what he’s implying, since he isn’t exactly subtle.

Yeah, we have to stand up for Dr Luke because he is... (Looks at a picture of Dr Luke) Oh shit, he’s obviously a rapist. If he was older I’d say he invented it.

One time I got stuck talking to a guy who’s an accountant at a data analytics firm, but it was still more interesting than hearing someone talk about shooters.

The article implies that the phrase "Butt Stallion" wouldn't be allowed in a PG-13 movie, so... Yeah.

ESRB ratings also seem to have minimal impact on marketing and sales, but it's harder to market R-rated movies to teenagers.
