You sir, are ruining Jalopnik. We come here for sensible, facts-first analysis of automotive trends. Go to Edmunds if you want snark.

I got a better Destroyed DJ story.

The Chevy SS may be an answer, hear me out.

Here is her damn cookie, and I hope she chokes on it.

Came to say took this person 20 years to tell us what we knew 20 years ago. Another portrait in courage.

Judi:

Seriously - someone’s been watching too much Clarkson.

Nope. It's a fairy simple system and parts can be got.

It’s a simple car and anything that goes wrong can easily be fixed, quite likely by better bits. Same applies to any other car of the era. Calm yourself with the “Lucas!” rhetoric.

I don’t think anybody buys these cars for their mechanical prowess. You buy them for more abstract and aesthetic reasons. Nostalgia, image, the pleasure of having something simple to tinker with...

The point of this whole thing is NOT that Tesla wouldn’t do a $700 fix. It’s that Tesla designed the battery pack in a fundamentally stupid way, where the entire battery pack needs to be replaced when a small plastic part breaks. This would be like (as someone else said in another comment) if Ford designed an engine

I think Tesla actually did that. Or it was something like some home depot wood corner trim and a ratchet strap.

The point is you shouldn’t have to replace an entire $16k battery because a plastic nipple for a low pressure cooling system was cracked. This should be a $1 part that can easily be replaced on said battery pack.

16k for a very large critical item on a car isnt that outrageous

Okay Grandpa Elon, let’s get you to bed.

I’m sorry, the brass will what now?

Not sure how a brass piece is going to warp. This is likely stronger than the plastic piece ever was. The only downside I can see is that the plastic housing it went into will likely break before it does, so the potential for the next repair to be much more difficult is higher.

How is this janky? This fix is less likely to break than the original design.

Just waiting on the Elon fellatioers to try to justify why this car is designed in such a shit-crap way.

I’ve personally met the current and last two CEO’s of my supplying corporation. My impression of all three of them was positive, something that was confirmed to me by third parties. It’s not necessary for a CEO to be an asshole.
