Exactly. I think that was the instructor's point - people often seem to characterize abusers as "out of control" or having anger management issues, but the point is that they control and manage their anger just fine when they want.

Yeah, I suspect that when people like him say they have gay friends, they mean that a neighbor is gay or something. And then, because he's never specifically been rude to the guy just because he's gay he figures that counts as "having gay friends."

I met a mother who named her kid Brandeis and I wondered if she knew that it was the name of a University. Turns out she did and they named the kid that after the University, and then I just didn't know what to say.
