Just what I was thinking (though FC provided diminished returns).

By guileless do you mean credulous? Because Carlson is pretty fucking far away from guileless.
concurred.
i’d also like to see this happen with the women cast of ghostbusters. with a movie that’s not absolutely terrible.
I think it’s totally inaccurate to say this is “a real low point for the once-untouchable franchise,” given that the only franchise this could be considered part of is Sony’s Spider-man’s acquaintances without Spider-man himself film universe, which was never untouchable, with at best some people thinking Venom 1 was…
Okay, she’s not explicitly saying it now either, but it’s clearly her attitude towards widely derided tentpole and future cult classic Madame Web, which she was in despite her quip to the contrary (“you definitely did not see me in Madame Web”) last week on Saturday Night Live.
I don’t blame any of the actors for those movies being bad, everything I’ve seen points to Lucas wanting them to act like they’re bad actors playing poorly written parts.
He wasn’t great. But I can’t really hold a 9 year old accountable for a bad performance. It’s not like he’s a professional who had spent decades honing his craft or dreaming about the project. Unlike the guy who wrote his part and directed his performance.
The prequel trilogy is as despised as it always was by the people that despised it. The difference is that the opinions of 8 year olds who loved the movie at the time didn’t count and now they’re in their 30s and are counted as part of the conversation. I would guess the number of adults who saw it in theaters and…
No, the prequels haven’t been “normalized” or redeemed. Showing them on regular cable a lot doesn’t make them better. Excusing them as “children’s films” or pointing out that Rise of Skywalker is worse doesn’t make them better or justify their low quality.

it’s 2024 i’m reading an av club newswire about joel mchale and chevy chase fighting on the set of community
Regarding your second paragraph, you certainly don’t see anyone leveling that charge against The Zone of Interest (My personal pick for Best Pic of the year), and that’s probably because nobody who thinks that way probably bothered to watch The Zone of Interest.
I thought DiCaprio was mind-bogglingly wrong for this movie, and I tend to really like his work.
My two cents: I think Scorsese was the wrong person to direct this film, and his role in its making raised expectations and provoked a far greater letdown.
Every time I see people with this same bullshit take, I think that you either didn’t see Poor Things or you don’t understand how basic math works.
“...aren’t the biggest fans of Martin Scorsese. The director has been nominated 16 times...”
Scorsese’s epic was undoubtedly one of the best films of the year.
“Robbing” is a strong and inappropriate word. It would have been awesome to see Gladstone win because I really loved her performance, but Stone’s was also really incredible, and a much bigger part of her film. The award was up for grabs especially between the two of them, and not for Gladstone to lose.
This is a reductive take. While I loved Killers and didn’t find the length burdensome, it’s a bad faith take to say that people who can’t get on board are lowbrow idiots (which is what I interpret your comment to be saying).
Three and a half hours is difficult. Many people don’t have that in their day to give all at…
Becasue it was too long and frequently dull?
