To piggyback on what you’re saying, I think even many casual Star Wars fans have at least heard of Gary Kurtz. Anyone who’s ever gotten into the whole “Why Empire is the best Star Wars film” conversation has definitely heard of him. He might not get his due credit still, but he’s definitely not “forgotten”.

Yep. And it’s been done several times since for years now. I was just talking about this with my Intro to Film students. They were telling me about how “If X were a Wes Anderson movie” was a trending snowclone on TikTok and how clever it is, and I just started playing vid after vid from years ago.

Three and a half hours is a very ambitious runtime.

Late night comedy in general is a bit anemic for me. It’s just another way I know I’m old now. I miss early Adult Swim, Letterman, Ferguson, Conan, Jon Stewart’s version of The Daily Show, and Colbert 1.0.
