Absolutely. I think those qualities are there throughout the first three seasons, in fact—it’s just that, as you say, George Michael is there to remind him to check his own bad behavior, for the most part. There are scenes, though, where Michael still acts like a jerk even with George Michael there to check him.

Agreed. Another example: Michael is at his funniest and most likable when he’s judging his family and playing against their collective awfulness. In isolation, he’s not that great of a person, himself. The show tried to play that for laughs in season 4, but it just didn’t work for me.

Yeah, I’m not overly enthusiastic about Lindsay—or any of the Bluths—being sidelined for several episodes.
