Man, thank you for putting Boosie on your list. He had a damn good year and I don't think people really noticed. I still haven't heard that Noname record, gotta get around to that.

I agree that they have released better work as individual entities, and there are aspects of the coverage around Run the Jewels that annoy me. Having said that, I like both of the albums, and I'm happy that two artists that I have a great deal of respect for have reached this level of success and exposure (especially

It's not even the best verse on "Winter Warz"! "You heard other raps before but kept waiting…"

This is only slightly related, but I'll mention it since there's rarely a reason to talk about any No Limit artists in an AV Club thread: C-Murder and Boosie released a mixtape this year called Penitentiary Chances and it is very good. It's basically a concept record about being incarcerated at Angola from one rapper

1) "Mainstream"
2) "E.T. (Extraterrestrial)"
3) "B.O.B."
4) "Slump"
5) "Da Art of Storytelling Pt 2"

Other good-to-great '96 albums:

"Fly Into the Sun" is the first song I listened to on the day he died.

His work throughout that album is so great. I wish he and Lou had collaborated more when they were both still alive.

That does seem to be the consensus, which actually kinda frustrates me. He definitely wasn't super consistent, and even some of his stronger records have their flaws (lord, what I'd give to hear the original mix of Legendary Hearts). But I had hoped that after his passing, people would comb through his discography and

Thanks for writing this. Always nice to read about Reed, and I've been playing this song and the entirety of The Blue Mask nonstop lately.

If we're counting KMD, than his real first album is Mr. Hood. Personally, I think it's the best entry point, as well as his best album period.

Are there any plans for The A.V. Club to start reviewing more rap releases? I don't think you guys covered the new Kevin Gates, Future, Young Thug, Boosie, etc.

Possibly the greatest rapper who never made/got a chance to make a great album.

I watched a few episodes of Courage on Netflix the other day. Holds up.

The Jacka made two of the best albums of 2014 before he died (Highway Robbery with Freeway and What Happened to the World). I was just starting to get really into him, so his death fucked me up a bit.

Never a Dull Moment is great.

Who the fuck doesn't like "Hey Ya!"?

Homicide: Life on the Street has a few episodes that could qualify, but "A Doll's Eyes" is just so brutal.

RIP. Great director and a force for good in the world.

That's awesome.
