I'm surprised at all the positive feedback, to be honest. I was pretty let down by the incredibly obvious twist and the even more on-the-nose Fight Club aping. Is the idea that it's "meta" making it kosher for everyone? It just seems really lazy, which is a shame because this show had been an A for me all along.

It really does. I was shocked. It felt like a whole new show.

Agreed. I really like how they tied it together there at the end.

Ditto.

I missed the complexity of Dolarhyde in Mann’s version and couldn’t get past the very ’80s style.>>

I think 30 minutes from each episode. This half-hour format is forcing all of this.

That's the problem with any arc for this series. This one especially felt rushed. That ending: woof.

I feel like his relationship with Reba has been the weakest link in this show to date.

so this is apparently some alternate dimension where it and stayed 1977 for 15 years and Dave Grohl wasn't already bigger than Johnny Rock when his band cracked up.>>>

I think they switched from gum to stickers sometime in the '80s. Wise decision.

Agreed.

Denis Leary?

Yes, diversity is an issue but that's more of a Hollywood problem than an Oscars problem. David Oyelowo should have been nominated, but it's more problematic that he was the only non-white actor who even had a shot at an Oscar nom.>>>

This pilot was awful. I'll give it a second chance, but I hate the sitcom format and Mulaney's so much smarter than that. I also am astounded at how this garbage episode could get a B-, but Halt and Catch Fire was struggling at Cs on here all season. Oh well.

I loved that and "Space Age Love Song".

I think this show has been incredible the past five episodes and don't really reflect the B- to B range they've been getting. The last three alone I'd slot in the A- range at the very least.

I agree. Felt the characters lacked inspiration and the pacing was all off. I'm surprised by a large amount of entries on this list, though Before Midnight is just phenomenal.

This might be the best comment I've ever read on A.V. Club.

Yes, I got chills from the last shot and the music at the end there. Very eerie, and the statue hinted at looking like Wilfred but wasn't exactly Wilfred, which made it all the more terrifying. It looked like a cross between him and Frank from Donnie Darko.
