I think the problem lies in that his style of movies are not really made anymore. He said it himself recently (or older, what do I know?) that art house films were a dying breed. He certainly did! He got a lot of young people to look up to him (and Colbert) to tell the news fairly and accurately. And he got some things moving in the right direction cause he was super passionate about things.
