I am just now actually watching Discovery after reading all the reviews and comments. A couple thoughts:

Where does Ansari say he *believed* everything that happened was completely consensual? I just saw Ansari’s statement and it looks to me like he’s asserting that it was objectively consensual:“we ended up engaging in sexual activity, which by all indications was completely consensual”.

I understand you response. Just a clarification point: I mean “grey” in the sense that it’s unclear what the tone of an interaction is simply from words. I think you mean that it’s a one-sided story. Yes, I am responding based strictly on her account and am taking her account at face value.

If you where simply saying she didn’t literally say the word “no” three times I concede the pedantic point. But it’s a functionally meaningless ultimately point:.

I am going to assume your comment is earnest and give you the straight answer:

I understand your point and am excited that we as a society seem to be taking women’s stories more seriously. And some men are going to get railed by the revanchist set who want to keep things the way they are.

I wonder what you mean by any other job holding outside conduct against people? Are you referring to background checks and references? Laws vary from place to place but employers are fairly limited in what outside conduct they can hold employees accountable for without putting themselves at risk of a wrongful

If someone believes that serial groping is not a resignation worthy offence then I can understand why they would think this sucked.

I am hoping that’s one of those hints from inside that a story on Singer is about to drop.

I understand that the whole “I fight for <enter preferred cause here>” line is a time honored rhetorical inoculation against accusations of ethical failings by our “heroes” but I fail to understand why so many fall for it especially in the case of gender equality issues. Cause I am like: you know who would be a better

Was it a typo?

I understand your point and have zero horse in the “Lena Dunham: Hero or History’s Greatest Villain” debate but... was that really an apology? Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the critique of her statement was that she dismissed the allegations against her friend out of hand. After the reading that “apology” my

And I am struggling with his apology. I think in general it’s the way his version of events is still presented first in the narrative even when he subsequently says the behaviour was unacceptable.

Look, I like Franken’s politics and find him charming. But his comedy has a history of jokes related to sexual assault so while I am disappointed it’s unsurprising to me. If anything I am surprised he has not been called to account on this type of thing before. And that apology seems weirdly off to me. Specifically

I reject the implied premise that just because Republicans* rally around sexu.al predators liberals/progressives should as well. I’d suggest there are times where political reality puts us in compromised situations — specifically when a politician has committed a resignation worthy offense but resignation means his
