Oh, it’s going well!

Yeah, I got a PS5 largely because I had skipped the PS3 and PS4 and saw it as a the best way to remedy that. As somebody who wanted a way to play modern PlayStation games it made a ton of sense to futureproof my console by buying the PS5 instead of a PS4.

There are a few PS5 games I quite like, but the vast majority would have still been fine on PS4. In fact I probably would have bought a PS4 last year instead if they hadn’t been completely sold out new and way overpriced. I’ve also yet to see any real reason to upgrade in terms of game exclusives. I guess some people are desperate for 4k games but with every major release coming out on the last gen I’ve never felt a major upgrade was less necessary (though based on sales numbers clearly a lot of people don’t agree with me).

Xbox Series S is not a minor downgrade. It’s also missing a disc drive so can only get sales on the Xbox store. While it has a 512 GB SSD, only 364GB is available. To increase storage for Xbox Series games, it costs $220 just for 1TB.

I have wanted a truly full, immersive Hogwarts-based game for over two decades now, and have literally dreamed about it in that time. It absolutely kills me that it’s finally coming out, and that I cannot in good conscience buy it and subsidize rowling’s bigotry.

On the one hand, I hope this launch forces them to reconsider their anti-consumer policies, on the other I’m aware that many people are going to be buying anyways. Frankly a boycott of this gen would be a good idea if it’d work.
