Yeah you're not wrong here at all. Smith truly was one of those musicians able to speak to different people in so many different ways. I think a lot of what people like the most in his discography has a lot to do with what they connected with first, of course, and for me it was that early stuff.

That can be the finale.

I honestly hope that if any one member of the gang leaves, it doesn't continue. I'm not sure how the show could work as well without any of them - and while I doubt they'd go down the Community route of replacing/ignoring the differences, it still wouldn't be the same.

I like it but it's a bit too rough around the edges - I don't think his songwriting had quite hit the heights there that it would on the next two. It generally feels a bit unfinished, almost a demo collection rather than a proper record. I mean, he didn't even want to release it at first.

I'm glad someone's mentioned an Angel episode! Angel and Spike baiting each other absolutely makes that series.

Timmy's down the bloody well!

Mm, I think his later stuff lacks the intimacy of the S/T and Either/Or, which is a big part of what I love about Elliott Smith. So it never really did it for me in quite the same way.

Counter argument? Would love to hear it, I know everyone has wildly different favourites when it comes to Elliott Smith.

OK, look, no. I get what you're saying - racists are everywhere. I don't have a choice about whether a racist serves me in a shop. However, I can avoid companies that have known racist links. But choosing what art you wish to engage with is something else entirely. That says a lot about who you are as a person and

Or maybe Needle In The Hay, or The Biggest Lie, or Speed Trials.

Definitely going to say that the S/T and Either/Or are kind of the only two Elliott Smith albums you REALLY need - I'll accept XO as a third to complete that transformation from solo acoustic guy to full band guy. Roman Candle, Figure 8 and Basement On A Hill are good records but honestly never hit the gold like he

Thirded!

Can't wait for this to go up on Netflix, saved the whole series for one go as Always Sunny is the perfect binge-show.

You can't tell if black metal bands have racist lyrics just by listening because, come on, let's be honest, you usually can't understand what they're actually saying - certainly not at first listen anyway. It matters because I don't want to give my money, or my time, or my attention to racist bands. I don't want to

I found this a really fun watch myself - Theroux's TV work has been increasingly serious and hard-hitting lately, it was nice getting to see him work on something a little lighter in tone and a bit more fun, especially after watching his Savile follow-up, for example.

Second halfs of two parters don't make for good one-off viewing tbf, surely there's better standalone episodes for a random binge?

To be honest I don't know much about Russian nazis now - but according to what I've been reading, nazi vibes in Russia in the 70s to 90s were down to anti-communist feelings and misplaced punk nihilism. Now Russia isn't so communist, so I imagine things changed

She's hell on the ol' skins.

I also actually know quite a lot of people that like black metal, grindcore and hardcore but don't want to listen to racist, homophobic or sexist bands. "Anyone know any good new non-racist black metal bands" or similar is a fairly common request in the scenes I hang out in :)

i was sort of goofing back there, pal. look, not sure why it's so outrageous that i don't want to listen to racist bands and so do a bit of research before checking ones out in a genre with a racism problem. your hiring analogy is a bit daft, employment law and what bands i listen to are a bit different. you're sort
