I almost always, as long as I could remember, had some kind of scalp damage from relaxers. Professional, home made, did not matter. The only time I left a salon with straight hair AND no chemical burns was the Jamaicans in Brooklyn that would work and wash each section separately. My scalp is just very sensitive and

i saw this meme just last week with the text: “let me know when it starts burning.” that we do this to little black girls, giving them the message that their natural selves aren’t good enough, is morally wrong. thank you, racist america.

Last year we had a sign up in our dept for “Holiday Party.” An older couple was walking by the sign and the husband stopped and stared at it. So I jokingly say, “ hey do you want to come to our party ?” And he just sneers and growls,” I only go to CHRISTMAS parties!” So I said, “ well this party is being thrown by a

To both I said, “Thanks, you too”. It wasn’t that difficult

The problem isn’t that women are having a hard time keeping a clean and professional look without chemical straightners, it’s that the definition of clean and professional deliberately (and racistly) exclude the hair that naturally grows out of our head. It still does to some extent but that is going to have to change

I remember little girls having horrible green and yellow scabs from perms. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about people putting this stuff in babies’ heads. I went natural as soon my mother let me do my own hair and would never dream of putting that stuff near my body ever again. I don’t judge anyone who

I love Kris Straub, especially since he’s responsible for the “All houses matter” comic.

Now, that is a great response: Jesus would be so proud of your passive-aggression.

This is precisely why I gave up straightening my naturally 4C hair. EVERYTHING made my hair break off. If I used the “lite” perm, there were no actual changes to my hair structure. “Regular” or “Bone Straight” would effectively straighten my hair, but would also weaken it to the point of falling out. Wash and

One guy tried to tell me “Happy Holidays” is invented by retailers as part of the war on Christmas by trying to appeal to non-Christians to get money from them too (why he thinks retailers want to fight Christmas I do not know) when REALLY the nondenominational greeting is “Season’s Greetings.”

I agree with most of what you’ve said here. As a relaxed lady with long, healthy hair (I go to a professional every 15 weeks), I just have to add that not all of us do it because we ‘hate’ our hair. It’s just a preference for me, like shaving my legs. I still love how I was made.

Just hang this in a convenient place.

How is this different to every relaxer? They all cause chemical burns, hair loss and breakage. Relaxers are dangerous chemicals by design. If they weren’t, they couldn’t straighten hair.

Clinton lost because her campaign sucked, and people in the rust belt are gullible, desperate people

We should probably blame white women. Not even being sarcastic.

Fuck him. Fuck Trump. Fuck the electors. Fuck the Berniebros who protest voted. Fuck anyone who could have easily voted but actively chose not to.

He’s not wrong. The people who are willing to look past Trump bragging about committing sexual assault because he promised them that The Steel Mill Will Reopen! weren’t going to be dissuaded by him saying “n****r”—in part because so many of them use the word themselves.
