To me quilt is more privileged complaining than anything else, like, "I feel so baddd this is happening but what can I do," while accountability is like "wow I've contributed to this really shitty situation and now need to activley work to fix it."

I had to dismiss at least five very nasty replies. As a survivor of such abuse, this story hit my buttons terribly.

A very necessary piece but I would go a step further and say that guilt is a demobilizing and often fleeting emotion that we should resist and instead embrace accountability as I find it a more empowering and mobilizing emotion/ starting place. Accountability means really understanding the scope of an issue, your

As a counterpart to (or maybe in coordination with) the NY Times reporting on this, I highly recommend that folks check out UMass sociologist Miliann Kang's award-winning work on race, gender, and inequality in nail salons. I think part of what she'd argue is that this problem is about customers—not whether or not

She’s got siblings?? Oh, man. Speaking as the non-favorite of my family, that is craaaazy bad.

He goes to extremes to worship her; he singles her out among her siblings; is generally unhinged; princess worship is tinged with sexual weirdness.

I laughed, I cringed, I giggled, and sighed with relief when the kid wasn’t a Republican.

Whoa wait she has siblings? yeeaaaahhhhhhh....that really smells...

Yes, the extreme lengths to which he has gone to solidify her princess status, the unhealthy focus on her, and the singling out among her siblings.

What would make you think that? Is it the borderline obsession with her underlying the whole scheme, the obvious megalomania, and a desire to remove his entire family from any kind of government oversight?

I’m not in any way pro-military, but I would totally enlist in your army.

I feel like I want to crowdfund an army and go take over his Virginia home, overthrowing him and his heir. Nothing bloody; we’d just strong-arm them into the street, change the locks, and let them watch me making myself at home: watching Netflix on their flat-screen, eating their food, etc.

What I’m about to say will bring in all kinds of deserved excoriation. I just got this extreme gut feeling that this man is sexually abusing his daughter. And now I’m going to hide.

The lentil eating one looks like a soccer mom, NGL.

Boring is far far worse than ugly.

So many messes, so little time. I feel like I don’t even know where to begin. People who deserve a permanent disinvitation for their boring and terrible outfits: Reese Witherspoon, Diana Argon, Miranda Kerr, Chloe G Moretz, Kristin Wiig and as much as it pains me to say it my homegurl Alicia Keys.

Here is your winner

Karen Elson looks pretty great. And she actually dressed for the theme. The people who don’t dress for the theme and who wear short and/or boring dresses infuriate me. If you’re at the Met Gala, you’re probably rich and hot. You have the opportunity to wear a crazy elaborate ballgown, something 99.9% of women will

Was going to say, I just ate lunch and now I feel like I should throw up on principle.

That is just his colostomy bag, sorry.
