I had always heard the reason the machine was “broken” was because it required periodic cleaning (every few days, I’ve heard 4 as the interval) and it was a PAIN IN THE ASS to clean. So rather than cleaning it, employees would just say it was broken and carry on.

You’ve got a great point there. I completely forgot about the walmart commercial, which would be slightly hilarious if it were the most expensive to make. 

My reaction to that ad was “Audi probably paid the most money to buy a spot and produce a commercial. Disney doesn’t just hand over their original material for a low cost”
