In most months not December or January, infantry platoons spend about a week in the field. The rest of the time is cleaning weapons or barracks, classes, physical training (exercise) and duty. The officers were doing much of the same, but instead of cleaning, they were planning the next field exercises.

They will pay huge money for that. You should go on a shopping trip to celebrate. Don't worry about the bill, you will get a check before your next credit card cycle.
