I don’t think fat, rich westerners started taking tours of refugee camps in order to find their very own green-eyed afghan girl. So the fetishization you are talking about might just be in your mind.

At a family get together, my uncle was talking about they tracked this girl down a few years ago to another male relative, and he said: “Yeah... The bloom is off that rose!”
Perhaps I shouldn’t tell you this trick, but if you drink a ton of water, you won’t get the headache.
I’m not surprised AA is so relied upon. For the longest time, it really was the best option. Abstinence was the only game in town. But now there is a way to actually eliminate an addiction rather than just enduring it. Read this, you might find it really informative: http://cthreeeurope.com/2015/02/21/introduction-…
Yes! I use naltrexone. My GP didn’t let me have it, but my shrink reluctantly was convinced that the methodology was sound.
I’ve been touting it a lot lately, but please forgive me for the fact that I can’t stop working my wet jaw about “The Sinclair Method”. It’s a way to get sober that actually requires that you DONT go abstinent. I’ve been drinking my way to sobriety for a few weeks now, and I can’t recommend it enough. My…
Bless the day when you came into that K-500 article and realized the fun you could have with us :)
I hope someone recognizes him by that ridiculous outfit he’s wearing. I also hope he resists arrest when NewYork’s finest swing by to get him.
Come on, dude. No...
You are an awesome friend, Reddy, to listen to all my bloviating about my various addictions. Nobody is compelling you to do it, but you seek it out anyway because you are interested. I think you are my favourite person on Kinja. :)

Asked and answered, your Honor :) Here’s what I told another person. http://jezebel.com/1788126452
My experience with psychiatrists is that they aren’t thrilled when they *havent* heard of something, and their patient is jazzed about it. It’s as if anything they haven’t heard of must be quackery.
Such a hard situation. His presence is devastating, but so would be his sudden absence. I don’t think any of his slander will stick, though. I think it is obvious he is coming unravelled, and nobody thinks it’s truly your fault. Just get through the flames for now, and things will fall into place.
If you ever fall off the wagon, maybe give “The Sinclair Method” a try. It’s totally secular, and it has a 78% success rate in Finland, where it has been adopted enthusiastically.
I’m getting sober with the “Sinclair Method”. I’ve been talking to someone else about it, so you might benefit from reading my comments from yesterday on my discussion page. With the Sinclair Method, there is no need to go to meetings, and actually, it required that you not be abstinent, at least not at first. I’ve…
Gabor Mate simply rocks- he’s so full of insights. I found his explanations of the neurology of addiction particularly helpful; for some reason, I find it soothing to think of the brain as a physical entity, subject to the laws of nature like any other organ.
Oh, here we go, I found it: http://www.yourbrainonporn.com/internet-sex-addiction-treated-with-naltrexone
It’s hard to answer if naltrexone does anything for me on the porn front because I’ve been abstinent from it for so long. I’ve read a case study, though, about a dude who finally got some control over his porn problem with naltrexone. I can’t find it, but man, that dude had a WAAAAY bigger porn problem than I did. …
You tend to have pretty nuanced comments. I think the people who sometimes get pissy with you are 20-year olds who still see everything in really black and white terms. Like you aren’t a *real* feminist or something.
