I'd like to point out that, in the UK, midwives are highly regulated, like our doctors, while our midwives aren't regulated at all. You should always have a trained professional with you when you give birth, in case something goes wrong. Always.

Reminder: midwives who assist in home births (on average) in the US have no true medical training and no real licensing procedure.
