You really don’t know the motivations of Al Qaeda 16 years after 911?
You really don’t know the motivations of Al Qaeda 16 years after 911?
Yeah, you’re right. That’s just a line used by the NRA to shut down debate on this issue.
So, to be clear: You’re claiming, absent any evidence one way or another, that “the radicalization of whitey” is why this man shot up a country concert in Las Vegas?
Jesus fucking Christ.
Do you know what else ignores the point of gun control?
I’ve been commenting on the avclub for about 5 or 6 years years and didn’t get ungreyed because avclub’s disqus to Kinja converter was useless, at least the last time I tried. Them being “grey” doesn’t fucking matter and doesn’t make you any less wrong. Your “Fuck you” does lower the discourse of this site, though.
Yes, it absolutely matters. I’m not ‘reframing’ anything. I commented that Trump not using the word terrorism was correct because as far as we know it’s not terrorism and I made said comment on an article which specifically pointed out that he didn’t use the word terrorism.
Ahh I see. Thing is, this article is specifically about how Trump didn’t call this terrorism and I commented that, as far as we know and going by the dictionary definition of the word terrorism, he wasn’t wrong.
Except that this conversation about “semantics” is in the context of an article which is specifically taking Trump to task for failing to use the word “terrorist” to describe this action; so the meaning of terrorism seems pertinent to the discussion.
The SHARE act has nothing to do with this shooting, or frankly, any other mass shooting.
I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make exactly...?
What words mean matters regardless of the situation. There’s a difference between a mass murderer and a terrorist and that’s important to recognize.
Once again, the shitty political writing on the AV Club tried to write based on what they see on their Twitter feed. Authorities have also not called this terrorism. We don’t know the murderer’s motivation at all.
While terrorism contains the word terror, that is not what defines terrorism. Go grab a dictionary.
This is my inclination, too.
The semantics matter though. Terrorism is specifically violence for political ends. If this guy was just trying to kill a bunch of people and had no political goals, it was not terrorism. What words mean matters.
If you wanna be flip that’s great, but mass murder and terrorism are two different things.
Killing a bunch of people randomly is not terrorism, it’s mass murder.
The thing is, terrorism has a specific definition by the federal government as being used to further political or social objectives. So it would be presumptuous to start throwing that word around without knowing if it fits.
“The words “domestic terrorist” were not invoked.”
