They may seem unrelated, but mass acceptance of cruel, dehumanizing remarks tend to create a culture that encourages and supports the people who hurt such victims.

They are very much related, actually. The idea that trans women are “fake,” and the notion that trans women are “really” men who are trying to “trick” other men, and so on, is precisely the kind of dehumanization and fear-mongering that contributes directly to murders like these.

Do you not understand that a culture in which a subgroup is marginalized and presented as “not real” is also going to be a culture in which that subgroup is targeted for violence? Do you really not get that?
