Exactly. I'm so worried that this study just opens the door to the NCB crowd coming over here and yelling about the Business of Being Born and how doctors are evil and just want women who are NATURAL BEINGS ATTUNED TO THE MOON to be on a SCHEDULE, etc, etc. Like, I think more science is generally better than less

Good point. But no kidding, how many Level II ultrasounds do you want to do in a post-dates pregnancy? If the answer is 4-5, given that most doctors seem to want monitoring every 2-3 days for postdates women, then cool! But it seems like that would get expensive very fast.

Exactly. We don't know how many dead babies there aren't, because they're alive.

There are definitely medical reasons to induce the further you get from your due date. As I posted below, the "optimal" time (statistically) for a baby to arrive is between week 39 and 40. Then you know that baby is definitely done baking but probably hasn't gotten too big, placenta hasn't started to degrade, etc. I'd

I am so sorry. Thanks for posting about something so painful. It's important for people to know.

Eeeeehhhhhhh. I am pretty dubious about this. Stillbirth rates rise after 42 weeks. Morbidity rises after 41 weeks. I've read on multiple occasions that the "optimal" time for a baby to arrive, healthwise, is between 39-40 weeks. So I think this study is pretty interesting and its findings are worth looking into, but

That is horrifying. I hope she got fired. My kids' daycare is on constant video surveillance from the front desk (military base) so shenanigans like that would not be tolerated.

I too had some PPD when I was on maternity leave. I only felt normal when I went back to work after 8 weeks at home.
I honestly can't say whether it's better for my kids to be around only me all day versus a ton of other little kids and caregivers, but I can tell you it's definitely better for ME.

Hugs to you. I'm not getting into the "raise" vs. "help raise" debate, but daycare workers are awesome, underpaid, and under-appreciated. I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old who go to daycare. The workers there are engaged, tender, kind to my kids, and just generally lovely people. I go to work every day and know

1. Yes, I can honestly say that I don't have a laundry list of superficial dealbreakers. My husband is amazing and awesome and wonderful but I did not order him up like dim sum.

Some guys just feel like they're entitled to custom-order a lady because of their wealth and position.

No problem! I hope it works out for you. Be warned that the waiting lists are long, so it's important to get on one ASAP.

Right on. I took my first daughter home from Anchorage to Florida when she was 7 weeks old. On my flight from Anchorage to MSP I was in the middle seat between two big burly middle aged dudes. I saw them glancing at my baby and I told them, "You've got a choice. You can listen to her scream or you can deal with my

And you SHOULD tell men to allow women to lead, because when they don’t it is silencing. That is the same case for racism.

Hey there. Fellow military member here. As a retiree your husband and you are entitled to put your kids on the waiting list for the base CDC as long as he's totally disabled and you're working. The CDC's are AWESOME. My two kids are in one and we love it. And they're affordable and charge on a sliding scale. Just a

Um. Because I have to work. Unless you'd like to pay me to do all that park-going and book-reading? Because that would be cool.

I am in the military. If you didn't know, the military has an awesome — AWESOME — network of preschools, called Child Development Centers. Seriously, they are amazing. They have a low kid to teacher ratio. They give my kids free healthy meals. They sing with them, paint with them, take field trips and blow bubbles and

A few things:

You're kidding, right? This must be some expert trollage. Because if not, here's a summary of what just went down:

I too was annoyed by this. Jail is generally where you go if you're a) pre-trial or b) confined for a short time. In most jurisdictions jail is for folks who get less than a year. Prison is for more than a year. I also noticed the lack of editing. But I tried to overlook all that stuff and concentrate on the essence
