In the future, I’m going to bring this up in response to “If you have nothing to hide” bullshit excuses and see how many mental hoops people jump through to try to conflate the two.

I remember when DACA was still being bandied about as a possibility, people were nervous about coming forward and being registered with the government, precisely for this reason. They registered because they had faith in Obama and Obama’s successor, and now look.
