Parents just can't win, can they? Everyone just brings out their judgeypants and goes wild.

I finally got my Dad accepted as a patient at my GP - he was on the list for two years. What finally convinced him to actually see said doctor after suspect antibiotics bought OTC in a mexican pharamacy didn't make him better?

No, I'm out in conservative country big time - Calgary.

@Cinnamoncanuck: "It's one of the glories of the first-past-the-post system where there's a number of parties. People have been running for the NDP (and other parties) in federal elections for years, with little expectation of winning."

I have only a layperson's understanding of gene therapy but as I understand it there still is a decision.

@Ari Schwartz: At least in terms of genetics related ethical questions, I think much of the debate stems from a single binary question. Are you more interested in quality of life or quantity of life?

@RidingWestward: Are you trying to be cruel? You can't go around saying things like "my favourite female character in YA literature" and not give the title to back up your reccomendation! ;)

@killedbyllamas: You are so right. People always assume that but a passing acquanitance with high school biology shows that to be false. FEMALE is the genetic blueprint in humans and the Y chromosome doesn't kick in until the 10-11 week to start sex differention in male fetuses.

@Katxyz: yes, that has to be one of the creepiest things I've heard in a while.

That figurine looks just like Catherine, if only Catherine was half giraffe beneath her skirts.

@Felicia Roxanne: If the feeling of having your girls snuggling up with your collarbones floats your boat, then go for it!

@jfwlucy: If you haven't started reading Tamora Pierce, DO SO!! Her Circle of Magic universe is aimed at your daughter's age and has two completed quartets plus two books that follow. Then when she is about 12, the Tortall universe books are waiting for her (Completed: 3 quartets and one duology. Another trilogy is in

@jenilane: That's why God in her infinite wisdom created cleavage and/or push up bras.

perhaps I'm giving too much credit to the narrator since I "read" the audiobook version, but I satyed with it through *20* CDs

I'm into sci-fi /fantasy as well so it wasn't so weird for me. The other major difference is I couldn't get my hands on a printed copy right away but the audio book was just sitting on the shelf at my local library so I had a totally different "reading" experience for that book.

To me, "The Host" was the book that proved that Meyer actually did know how to write (so why she didn't utilize those skills with the Twilight series I can't fathom.) I liked The Host but how much are they going to have to cut to turn that huge book into a movie?

Ginnifer Goodwin's dress is a great example of when horrible design happens to great fabric. That is a tragic waste of beautiful green material.

@honooko: In Japan at least this is something that isn't limited to gender. Women do this too. Traditionally, the only way for a (highborn) woman to divorce was to cut off her hair and retreat to to the Toukeiji Temple or the Mantokuji temple. [www.jstor.org]

@Jesse_Astle: Exactly. For instance Calgarians were treated to a full front page picture of our newly voted in Conservative Prime Minister kissing his wife in the Herald this morning.

@Dorisaurus: Gym class should be better run too. At least in my expereince they taught us the rules of various sports and let us play 90% of the time and did benchmark testing the rest of the time. Never did the benchmark testing actually have anything to do with our actual fitness.
