I havent heard the warm watter part before, doesnt it seem counter-intuitive to the last point of keeping them cool? I usually hear use cold water, and have even heard putting ice cubes in the water helps slow the metabolic rate, much the same way as refrigerating them does.

What doesn’t kill you...

I think there’s a Lifehacker on reviving stale chips.

If they are plain tortilla chips, you can put them in the oven for 5-10 minutes at 300'f to toast them fresh.

Yeah. I buy the $2.49/loaf bread for $1 when it’s two days from expiration (when it arrives at the $ tree). You can freeze bread and then thaw it when you’re ready to use it. It retains it’s freshness - for the most part - it can get hard if it freezes too long. And with kids and 3-4 sandwiches for lunch it saves a

I check expiration dates even at the supermarkets and other stores. You’d be surprised how many clerks forget to rotate stock and suddenly you’ll have an expired product show up.

Like the article says, you really need to be cautious. In Canada most of the dollar stores also carry brand name stuff, that’s put out by the distributor (i.e., pop [Coke/Pepsi], chips [Doritos]) who takes the old expired product and replaces with newer. I’ve never had stale chips or flat pop but I suspect it’s stuff

Yeah.... the article mentions to check expiration dates for some of the non-food items, but you NEED to check all expiration dates at the stores. Sometimes the stuff is at the dollar store because of a short expiration window left and the things will expire and still hang around on the shelves more often than you

Oh... oh no :P

Kristin, this is an incorrect method of maintaining a portable fire extinguisher. It has been a falsehood for over 20 years since I joined the fire protection industry first as a fire extinguisher service technician. Doing this does nothing as the dry chemical resettles very quickly. The manufacturers have designed

I hate those four words and I have coworkers who try and use that phrase on me all the damned time. It ends the conversation, because its literal translation is: "I don't understand what your problem is and I don't care." It's the modern office equivalent of "I was just following orders."

Mnemonics are really any trick you use to remember something.

You still use a checkbook, too? J/k

With the way Yahoo!,Inc. is going, I’d be worried about losing your @yahoo.com email address. The service itself will probably live on.

Be aware that some coconut water also contains citric acid as a preservative and to give it vitamin c. It might be enough to trigger some people, and it definitely can’t be good for your stomach if you have issues. I don’t really follow what brands have or don’t have it, I just always check before buying.

Except it tastes like ass. It’ll work in a pinch, but I recommend Apple Cider Vinegar pills to balance the pH in your stomach. Doesn’t taste nearly as bad and you can take them with your meal (if you know it’s going to be problematic). They work pretty fast if you take them after you get heartburn as well.

/snerk - thanks for that, I corrected the headline for Mel, in case she didn’t see this.

Totally agree! I picked up a $20 one years and years ago and, while it use it less now (seems like everything now is charged by USB and I rarely need a laptop on the go like I did before my smartphone/tablet) it is definitely something useful to have.

I’m not saying don’t torrent but he said that everyone should torrent. Torrenting only works if the pool of people doing it is small enough that it does not hurt the content creators so much that they can’t afford to make content. a small number of people torrenting is fine. Everyone doing it would end the production
