I’m not sure I understand your point. Their app works on multiple OSs including iOS and Android. While it could be a need for better processors, it seems like designing one main server program and OS specific clients could be potentially easier (and bean counter approved) than porting their full app to each platform.

2D shape optimization doesn’t have to be that processor intensive but it is math intensive, and my guess is they built it in the cloud for compatibility.
