Which is to say, entire layers of middle management of this company exist to insulate the CEO from actually needing to understand how any of this works and also to insulate the people who need to understand how relevant things work in order to do what they do from having to respond to the CEO’s whims.

By not having RCID and just paying the county taxes, those counties would have been on the hook for expenses far outweighing the property taxes Disney would have had to pay. Instead, RDIC allowed Disney the ability to create all that infrastructure and maintenance thereof at a price far exceeding the potential tax…

They always did, and moreso. Just the added influx of tourist dollars added to the 7% sales tax is huge. Beyond that, Disney always paid for everything in RCID, in lieu of paying taxes on the land and putting the maintenance burden on the counties.

But they weren’t paying the “I’m a reactionary and you did something that doesn’t affect me in the least but I don’t like because reasons” tax.

Republicans celebrating that Disney is now going to “pay their fair share” don’t realize that Disney, through the RCID, has always been paying MORE than their fair share and that this bill will not impact their tax burden in EITHER direction.

It’s political theater.

Republicans never do anything to benefit the citizens (unless they are the big money donors or bottom of the barrel deplorables.)

Disney will be backing people to replace Ziegler and DeSantis, but I doubt they will go so far as to back a Democratic candidate. They want old school, business friendly Republicans in charge, not the Christian Fascists that are now.

No one cares. At least it seems that way. Businesses should be boycotting the shit out of states like Fla and Texas. But they aren’t. DeSantis was overwhelmingly reelected even with heavy gerrymandering. My friend circle, most of which are LGBTQ+ are planning to spend Spring Break in a state that literally hates them.…
