Do you really think that it was just tragic miscommunication? If so, do you care to expound on what got you to that conclusion? Of the three that you mentioned, to me this is the most egregious. And I disagree with your assessment of the other two, because you’re basically saying “if you don’t comply you have to be

It was “tragic miscommunication” with Yanez, who was being gentle? Ok.

If you would only comply, I wouldn’t have to shoot you.

The direction at which this episode seemed to aim the story arc is, “mediocre white man gets paid more just because he is.” No mention of the pay disparity between white women and black women.

I don’t find it to be true about not chastising white people for being charlatans. I do agree with you about building funds and “love” offerings in church. And I think just because you think chicanery and scamming is rarely remarked upon, that should not give another charlatan a bye. I have to agree with you about

It doesn’t bother you that he hasn’t reported on nah cent he has raised?

She’s really tall, actually, and quite (model) thin. So it could be her without photo shop.

Except they called him. He didn’t call them.

I STILL hear exactly how he used to say her name. OMG.

I just love that video so much. I’m supposed to be working, guys. Now I have to keep watching it and hope no one sees my tears of joy.

It is swampy, moistly hot here in DC and all over the rest of America that is south of the Mason-Dixon line; it’s hot as heck in many other places as. This is why, in all of those places, and in pretty much all of America, it is completely acceptable for women to wear a sleeveless sheath to work.

It helps to know the source material you’re expounding upon. I think that’s the point here.

That too. And may that story be told and understood. Because it’s overlooked.

A lot of African Americans grow up with the claim as a way to explain what is actually white genetic heritage. Skip Gates wrote a great piece on it at the Root. I think with a lot of white Americans there is a romantic notion of being of Native American descent as a type of absolution from the actual violent and

Supporting. Meanwhile she was totally a lead, vital, integral part of that cast. She went for the easier category rather than get her full due. Wow, that sounds awfully familiar.

Yes to all of this. Thanks for the deeper analysis.

In addition to Kara Brown’s comments, I’m petty. I would appreciate the petty that goes back and cusses out the racist and also says, “and I’m gonna get the rose, too.”

I actually don’t think it’s an overstatement. The high of her win— I think that year felt like there was a real breakthrough. Halle Berry won and Denzel Washington won. I remember thinking that now things couldn’t go back. And the disappointing thing about the Academy Awards (and so many other things, apparently)

She really has. It’s been amazing to see her elevate the idea of a teen magazine. I love it.

I guess this is an example of not wanting to have to get into colorism? I get it— Charles Hamilton Houston handpicked Thurgood Marshall to move Brown forward; we are all indebted to Houston, Marshall, and the NAACP Ink Fund All Stars. But to discount the role that color plays in our community is short sighted, and
