What I love is that critics of the MCU will parrot the Scorsese elitism/criticism that these aren’t “real” movies and just amusement park rides, but in the next breath claim the movies are too complicated with too much backstory for people to jump into. Which is it? Are they not real narratives, and just spectacle? Or

Can’t wait for the “too cool for school” squad to start telling us how this is the end of all cinema.

[Aquaman has entered the chat]

It’s a generally well-made movie in most aspects (writing, acting, direction, all the technical stuff, etc) that is absolutely unnecessary because it does almost nothing different than the Nolan films. Not that Nolan’s films were perfect, but this new flick is so similar in style, themes, plot, and characterization

Oh, I don’t know. I think he probably DID ask them and Sony’s answer to each one was “Whatever, make sure Venom is in it.”

Bigotman and the Legion of Q will certainly spawn a series of sequels that will pay off all of the state’s debts.

and being feigning that he’s totally indifferent to the media circus he leads.

Yeah this list would be far more helpful if it was indexed against one of the livability/happiness/safety/per capita income ratings by MSA.

I’m sorry, saying “rear entrance” violates the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, please turn yourself in

I mean he’s got a point. This is a picture of Cairo in 1980, even a few years earlier than the movie. It’s a city. Hollywood does have a habit of showing Cairo like it’s perpetually the dig site from Indiana Jones.

I thought it was pee! Then I thought maybe it was blood! Turned the bedroom light on, and didn’t see anything yellow or red, and then I was very confused. I figured there were only two possible liquids in the human body, so it definitely had to be either pee or blood.

Listen, the process of posting a trailer and then writing a 300-word description of what people just saw in said trailer is long and arduous. Is it any surprise that the author let a couple of details, such as consistently getting the name of the protagonist correct, slip through the cracks?

G/O Media must have gotten rid of all the copy editors after none of them would take a pay cut to move halfway across the country to a city with a much higher cost of living.

That’s the thing about Vanessa Bayer. She is generally great in the things she’s in. In small doses.

Neither have I. Good thing the author makes sure to clearly define it for such readers, instead of focusing all their energy stuffing as many instances of the word as possible into the article to the point of near incomprehensibility.

This comment is wrong and you should feel shame for writing it

Doesn’t look low budget at all? And the effects fit that Scott Pilgrim aesthetic.

Funny, I looked at each of the shows you mentioned with a sense of wonder and fun. I also look forward to seeing them, ill-fitting rubber suits and CW effects even.

Dark City is friggin’ amazing. One of those movies that seemed to come absolutely, utterly out of nowhere and was sadly overlooked at the time of its release. I’ve been recommending that one for twenty-five years now.
