The reality is that there was a group of people that demanded that a cis person not play a trans role but refuse to apply that logic in the opposite direction. Hence, hypocrisy. Personally, I don’t care if Page continues to play Vanya. My criticism isn’t with him but with those that are hypocrites.

What, are you telling me that Universal didn’t think Dracula Untold was successful?

It’s all starting to sound a bit like that time Universal revealed plans for a Dark Universe, which did not go over well.”

Well aside from the fact that Kingsmen will be founded on the back of a two successful movies and the Dark Universe was announced before any of those films were released.

I think AV Club had the best headline: “Meet Elliot Page”

I personally don’t care who plays what role and I don’t truly think that Page will lose the role of Vanya. My argument was more in regards to the arguments that Johannsen shouldn’t play a trans role because she is cis but as soon as Page came out as trans there was nothing but support for her playing a cis role. IMO,

What if I ask the following question: Who won the 1976 gold medal in men’s decathlon?

Nope. Dıdn’t you notıce that the TJA “ınformed” you? They ınformed, you obey. End of story.

davidwizard just goes around attacking anyone who doesn’t agree with him, even if they’ve been respectful and reasonable. I’m thinking it’s a troll, and for their sake, I hope they are, because being that miserable would be a terrible way to live life.

People all deserve to live how they like (assuming it doesn’t harm others) and be called by their preferred name and pronouns. Congrats to Elliot Page for taking a courageous step.

Using the name a person chose to assign themself is a form of respect and civility, no doubt.

Using both names in meta, as a description of events that have taken place (ie the entire concept of a transition), isn’t deadnaming. That is ludicrous bullshit. Not even universally held in lgbt Reddit/Twitter or anywhere I know of.

“The TJA informs journalists and other members of the media that “there’s never a reason to publish someone’s deadname in a story” [emphasis ours]—something that happened repeatedly this week in relation to Page.”

I would his former name on first reference, as it’s the entire point of the story.

By saying “Elliot, formerly known as X”, and then never saying X again. You just have to say it once, because X is the famous name, and then people will know who you’re talking about. No one had ever heard of “Elliot Page” before this moment, so obviously you have to tell people who you’re referring to. That’s the

I was taught in j-school to write for clarity and that if an activist group tried to police your language, to throw their tips in the trash. you can’t cover this story without using the both names. otherwise there is no story.

Personally, if a cis person can’t play a trans role then a trans person shouldn’t be able to play a cis role. Anything else is hypocritcal.

As a mechanical engineer, it never ceases to amaze me what we are able to engineer together. This is one of the most metal things I’ve ever seen.

You got it - it is literally just a big chain pulling upwards and going back and forth. No teeth or anything, though sometimes the chain is carbide encrusted (this one seems to not be). Ultimately, compared to the chain, the ship is made of thin steel. This is like sawing string through aluminum foil.

You only *think* you’ve never seen a security guard in a bank . . .
