I've been wondering the same thing as a designer myself. A lot of these interfaces (iCal, Reminders) are getting far too literal. And with the find my friends app there is no reason for it to have a stitched leather look. The realism is done well but it's just feels silly.

Couldnt agree more with this. Im amazed people are claiming they should have completely redone the UI and changed the hardware design and blah blah blah. Why? iPhone4 was the most successful iphone (and arguably smartphone) yet. No need to flip it on its head. Just make it better. Period.
