You’re not completely wrong about how having no preconceptions about GotG worked in its favor. But at the same time, I believe you’re wrong about what people know about superheroes and how much newness they will tolerate in the big hero properties.

And I keep having to remind people about these two little movies starring an unknown team called the Guardians of the Galaxy. I guarantee you that if you could have polled any two thousand random people prior to the release of GotG#1, you would have found maybe three guys who knew who Groot was. And yet, somehow GotG

Pretty much agree with everything here, but I stand behind the assertion that the world can totally handle a Miles Morales movie without losing their shit. People act like audiences will have problems understanding why Spidey is a black kid all of a sudden, and therefore the movie will fail.

I totally married MJ, so I can see where you’re coming from. Pretty much agree on everything else, too. It’s freaking mindblowing that both Wonder Woman and Spider-Man turned out this good, not to mention GotG2. Perfect superhero summer!

In with the obligatory “is that even considered a kink?” comment. Seriously, the CoD community must be pretty freaking vanilla if this is considered a perversion worth dragging someone through the mud over. Kink-shaming is NEVER okay, but this is just mind-boggling.

I didn’t go to Covenant, and I think I’m done with Alien movies unless they do something really exciting with them soon or let the series lie fallow for about twenty years. This series has been on a steady downward trajectory since Aliens, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Definitely not while they keep

I feel like Marvel are always doing this tease, in the comics as well as the MCU. We’re always one step away from having a POC who’s the actual hero, and not the temporary replacement, the sidekick and the also-ran. Here’s Sam Wilson, your new Captain America. No, wait, Steve Rogers is back - you know, the REAL Cap?

So wait, you say the women get excluded from the list because this is a list of the MEN who have been Spider-Man, but the list includes robots,spider-demons, a cat and a pig? How does that make even a spider-lick of sense?

Fourth roommate, who was wearing a brown coat, will keep insisting for a couple of decades that the fight would have been much more interesting if the cops hadn’t shut it down prematurely.

That’s actually the best and least obvious Tolkien riff in this thread. Tip of the hat to you!

I seriously don’t get why there has never been a comic book movie poster that took any stylistic inspiration from comic books. Really, the ONLY ones I can think of are Dick Tracy and Sin City, which are also the two movies that explicitly set out to duplicate the layout and feeling of a comic in the movies themselves.

I’m still seeing “Roman gladiator”, right down to the name (Max for Maximus), but now that you said it he does have a strong Aztec vibe.

Thank you for that response. I’ve been wondering what “rogue-lite” meant for a while, toop. I play a lot of roguelikes, but -lite was a new one to me.

Yeah, io9 has developed a weird tic where they ask rhetorically why nobody is watching/reading/consuming great things right before (or right after) they get cancelled. I discovered that “Black Panther and the Crew” was cancelled in the same article in which I discovered it existed. And yet, I know every single plot

That’s not really fair. It is just about 100% guaranteed that someone WILL ask “what’s an Inhuman” because that’s how you explain background to viewers who are just starting to watch and have not been following Marvel works for the last 35 years. Just like in the first episode of AOS there is someone who helpfully

That’s not even remotely what I was doing, but if you want to believe that I married my wife 20-odd years ago and raised two kids with her all for the purpose of scoring a couple of “I’m not racist” points in a random, anonymous Internet forum in 2017, I guess that’s what you’re going to believe.

I felt the same way. Throwing the Zune in there felt very hollow. In retrospect it kind of works because it’s true to Yondu’s character to go completely overboard in an attempt to be Quill’s Daddy, but at the time it was more like a complete betrayal of Peter’s mom and literally everything he was living for in the

I see this literally every day, in so many different situations. My kids are mixed race, but light skinned enough that nearly all white people assume they are white, and their friends come from a wide variety of ethnicities, and the difference in the way adults approach the various groups is so stark and obvious it’s

I had that book. Pretty sure it’s in storage at my mother’s house. It was an amazing book. The art of the Dark Crystal is even better than the actual movie. The behind-the-scenes features on the DC DVD are also astoundingly cool. There’s just something magical about not only Henson’s vision but the artistry of making

I’m about 95% sure that the Deadpool DVD actually has that in the special features.
