I think to solve the charging station issues, large cities should lean into their first love... parking meters. Electrify parking meters, add apps with advertising for local businesses within walking distance of the meter and pay to charge instead of pay to park. Add different rates for off peak hours and discounted

I know that this isn’t really an EV crowd yet (with the exception of the Elon fanboys), but there are a few things going for this:
1. Teslas hold their value extremely well. Like their stock price, the used market is unusually high. If you bought this car, drove it for a year, kept it in shape, you could sell it a year

Neutral: I was also in Kent, Ohio as a school photographer. It was at an elementary or private school, though. I just remember there being a lot of younger kids and parents picking them up and debates about whether to have the tvs on with kids around.

Neutral: My list of vehicles that should be electric -
1. Miata - the answer to everything. I’m not saying ALL Miatas should be electric so put away your pitchforks. Just an option.
2. Any station wagon - The easiest way to make all wagons performance wagons is to give them instant torque. Plus many wagons are used for

There was a range jump between the 2016 and the 2017 model years. So 2017 on up typically goes for over $20k with comparable mileage. I don’t think these are screaming good deals considering LA is probably the most saturated market in the US for i3s, but they aren’t overpriced either.

OK, he’s finally convinced me. I guess we should start protecting monuments.

One of the biggest challenges with that is current truck styling. It heavily features giant grills. Ford et al are probably pushing trucks with giant grills to hold off the coming electric truck adoption.

This is a little off topic and maybe outside of Jalopnik’s purview but I’d love to see an e-bike conversion article. I (like everyone else during the pandemic) recently bought an ebike and I’m already half convinced I should convert my dad’s ancient bike.

Slight tangent, but is there any equivalent to Sheldon Brown in any other industry? He is singlehandedly the expert and resource in bike repair!

I suspect he’ll only be a consultant on Fox until the next GOP president. I’m not sure he will be capable of speaking positively about any other president.

I’m a big fan of using my immersion blender. Put the eggs in a bowl. Immerse the immersion blender and blend! Ta da after about 4-6 seconds, I have frothy eggs and put the blender part in the dishwasher.

I haven't gotten bored yet. The key is for your other car to be a Subaru Outback and a constant reminder of how terrible acceleration can be while also having frequent electrical problems.

I think designers need to start moving away from the grill as their main brand language as a whole. Electric cars are only going to become more common and without a way to convey their design through the grill, a lot of brands are going to be doing the fake grills a la early Tesla and current BMW. This is a shame

Wouldn’t it just be easier and more beneficial to the city to convert parking meters to include chargers?

You’re just a half step away from sounding like a cyclist.
Sincerely,
A cyclist who likes cars but thinks the roads should be for everyone, not just the biggest one.

I love them too. Maybe this isn’t true, but it definitely feels like any very different design from any car company gets dumped on in the comments section here but this is one I would happily own even if no one else liked them at all.

I agree, in my personal and absolutely non-scientific observation, Model S prices have finally started to drop, but Model 3 prices have held steady or even gone up.

According Car Gurus, Tesla as a whole went up during the first month of the crisis and then fell off a cliff in April. Unfortunately it doesn’t break it

I can definitely see that. In my personal case it has been the opposite. We have an Outback and a BMW i3. Since we’ve been home all the time, I literally haven’t driven the Outback in 2 months. Every trip is a short trip and rare so despite having a far worse range than any Tesla, I haven’t been charging it every day

Speed limit laws are strict and regularly enforced in Ohio. The general flow of traffic in Michigan is at least 20-30 mph faster. So for an Ohio-an, it feels like Mad Max style driving. Yes the roads are terrible (in both states), but it feels like everyone in MI is just flooring it.
