There are a lot of people in the US who are completely law abiding, but who would be tremendously upset at the idea of law enforcement going from house to house, kicking doors in to search for contraband. Some gun owners would submit to the searches, because they are used to obeying the law. Some small percentage

That is the question. People buying and selling guns illegally might neglect to do that.  It is one of those ideas that seems sensible until you start looking at the details.

The guy was a “prohibited person”. He was not allowed buy or to posses a gun. He committed a felony by buying the gun. So not legal, not a loophole. It was every bit as much a criminal act as if he had bought a stolen gun from a crackhead in an alley.

The most interesting part to me is that they actually went pretty far in getting NA input and guidance for this project-

I suppose it could help to easily identify those people who have crossed multiple times under different names, or show if a person coming with a young child is a parent or a trafficker.

In the old Twilight Zone show, there was an episode called “It’s a Good Life”. It concerned a little boy with psychic powers. If he got really mad at you, he could “wish you into the corn field” The sane reaction to someone like that is to avoid them.

I am one of those rural people. In my community, firearms have been readily accessible for generations, yet we have very little violent crime, and zero gun crime, as far as I know. So when someone proposes that access to guns is the primary cause of violence in the US, we will generally not agree, including those of

Straw purchases, which mean a person buying a gun with the intention of selling it to someone else, is a felony that can get you 25 years in federal prison.

A favorite tactic of the SA was to blockade the entrance of businesses they did not approve of, paint political slogans on the walls and windows, and often smash the glass.

I think the idea is to just keep saying that he sped up and rammed the protesters, so that some percentage of people will believe that is what happened. I watched it about six times, and it looks as if he was trying to thread his way through the protesters, who beat on and climbed into his truck, and kept jumping in

I don’t think anyone is claiming that White supremacy does not exist. Rather, that the influence and danger from it is exaggerated.

Pretty much everyone supports improvements to the background check system, so that psychopaths will be flagged. Doing so does not require new laws, just enforcement of existing ones.

The shooter was an “eco-fascist”. That is more Earth First than MAGA. I would recommend reading the manifesto before blaming Trump for the shootings. I understand that Trump must be blamed, but it is just not realistic in this case. The guys biggest rant was automation and the environment. He ranted about urban

ditto. I would have preferred it if the film had been longer, if that had allowed the murder plot to be resolved.

This sound like the sort of thing a nine year old would come up with. Like figuring out a way to make a calculator display the word “boobs” when you hold it upside down.

The details behind this particular tragedy do not indicate that the family was fleeing violence.

The problem with that is the new tendency to label anyone who you don’t like as a Nazi. Especially leftists who have fallen out of favor due to some minor differences in opinion or understanding of the dialectic.

Do you believe that the decisions of the parents play no part in these tragedies?

I remember reading about how non-European Jews traveled thousands of miles so that they could sneak into Poland and present themselves to the SS for internment.

My understanding is that they are still litigating a case from 2015, which was before Trump.
