I believe the rotary engine is so compact that they are able to fit it behind the front axle but still in front of the driver. So it is technically mid engine, or front-mid. Not sure about the RX-7 but i vaguely remember them marketing the RX-8 this way.

I personally do not see a target market for Elio. The only thing it has going for it is price, but at that price a used car fits the vast majority of people’s needs much more effectively. Families wont buy it, anyone with decent income wont buy it. I just don’t see a market especially in the US
